Let's say you want more security on your Windows XP PC *and* use RDC. Well, you crazy monkey, you can move the port RDC server listens on.
- Start Registry Editor. (regedit.exe)
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber- On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
- Type the new port number, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
Now when you use the RDC desktop client software to connect to your exciting PC, you specify the address with the new port number at the tail end, like so:
